12/17/2007 UPDATE:

New Kendo Club in Cleveland!

The Cleveland Kendo Association is proud to announce the formation of the Japanese Language School Kendo Club. Classes begin February 2nd, 2008 at the Mandel Jewish Community Center in Beachwood and will be held every Saturday from 3-5 pm, with the primary focus on providing instruction to children and young adults. 12/17/2007 UPDATE:

The CKA has a new location!

The Cleveland Kendo Association has recently signed an agreement to offer Kendo instruction and hold its practices at the Mandel Jewish Community Center in Beachwood, Ohio staring January 8th, 2007. Please visit the schedule page for more details.

2/1/2008 UPDATE:

On Sunday, February 10, 2008 there will be a joint practice at OSU (Columbus). Those interested in attending, please contact Dr. Matsuyama.

12/17/2007 UPDATE:

Winter Break Schedule Update!

Most of the area Kendo Clubs have suspended practices through the winter break.

The CKA will continue to hold classes at the AMA in Medina, and there will be sporadic "outbreaks" of practices for those who cannot live without Kendo during the holidays (Please sign up for the listserv to keep abreast of these practices as they are called).

Joint Practice for all Cleveland Kendo Association clubs is set for Friday, November 30th at CWRU Adelbert Gym 8:00 pm sharp.

Thanksgiving Schedule:
There will be no classes at CSU and AMA on the following dates:

Thursday, November 22nd
Saturday November 24th
Sunday November 25th

- students are of course encouraged to work off the holiday meal with extra Ashi-sabaki (footwork) and Suburi (cutting) practice at home ;)

Please note the following schedule changes:

Class for Saturday evening, November 1oth at the AMA has been cancelled. Please try to attend class on Sunday morning November 11th with Dr. Matsuyama.

Class for Monday evening November 12th at CSU has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 13th at 8:00 in Room 229 due to Veterans Day observance.

Joint Practice for all Cleveland Kendo Association clubs is set for Thursday, November 15th at CSU Rec Center in the MAC Gym - 8:00 pm sharp.

Once again, we have been invited to a Taikai at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Saturday, November 3rd. Contact Dr. Matsuyama for details.

On Sunday, October 21 2007 there will be a joint practice at OSU (Columbus).

O8/01/2007 UPDATE:

Practice at AMA is cancelled for this Saturday, August 11th. Members of the club are traveling to the joint practice at Ohio State University.

Practice for Sunday August 12th is still on and will begin at the normal time of 9:00 am for IAI/Kendo.

08/01/2007 UPDATE:

On Saturday, August 11 there will be a joint practice at OSU (Columbus) with Tokune Sensei (6 dan) and other great Sensei from ECUSKF.

If you want to attend this practice, please let Dr. Matsuyama know by August 3rd. Even if you are not sure ..if you wish to go, please respond. We need to submit name list by August 3rd.

OSU Kendo Club, U. Kentucky, U. Pittsburg Kendo club, Miami Valley Kendo Club may join this practice.

Although instruction remains free, there are circumstances that a fee is required for use of space at certain locations.

6/13/2007 UPDATE:

For the time being, Adelbert Gym at Case is tied up. So, Tuesday and Thursday practice at Case will start in Racket court in Veale Center at 6 pm. From 6:45 pm, we will move to Multipurpose room if it is available. If Multipurpose room is not available, we will continue practice in racket court.

Those who are not affiliated with CWRU may need to pay $5 for the use of Veale Center facility. Please prepare $5 cash. We will try to make sure that someone with a CWRU ID is waiting at the entrance, so please try to be on time.

June 22nd (Friday Evening)There will be a special practice in honor of Akagi Sensei's Visit to Cleveland at the Bratenhal Community Center. Please attend.
