Schedules, Locations, & Fees

 

The Cleveland Kendo Association practices in Beachwood, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland) at the Mandel Jewish Community Center, and at the Bally Total Fitness. Practices are open to the entire community.

 

Please contact us first if you wish to visit any practice, in order to confirm its locations.  Additionally, if you are new to the club you must fill out a waiver form before you will be allowed to join the practice.

A note about fees: In addition to a monthly rate (depending on the location of the practice- see below). There is an Annual Membership Fee of $50.00 to join the Cleveland Kendo Association, and annual dues for membership in the regional and national Kendo federations which are required for all students and instructors.

You must be signed up prior to starting classes. To do so, just visit the Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation (FWR) office at the JCC (downstairs) and tell them you are there to sign up for the Kendo classes. Also, please drop us an e-mail to let us know that you will be coming. Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation office hours: Mon-Thurs 9am-6pm, & Fri 9am-4pm.

Fees paid to the Mandel Jewish Community Center (MJCC):
MJCC Members: $24.00 (paid in advance for three months)
Non-MJCC Members: $72.00 (paid in advance for three mo's)

Fees paid to the Cleveland Kendo Association (at your first class):
CKA Membership: $50.00 (paid in advance once per year)
Kendo Federation: $50.00 (paid in advance once per year)

Visitors: Visitors are always welcome to watch our practice (send us an e-mail to let us know you are coming).

Parking: Available in front of building (free)

The Japanese Language School Kendo Club is an independent Kendo club who receives instruction from the Cleveland Kendo Association. The classes are primarily designed for beginners, and are open to the entire Cleveland area community.

$45 per month family (paid in advance for three months)

● $8 guest fee (for visiting Kendoists)

Kendo practice at CWRU is restricted to CWRU students, staff, faculty, and advanced members from the other clubs who provide instruction to CWRU students, subject to the rules of the University's athletic department rules. An entrance fee of $5 for non-CWRU member is required. If there is not a CWRU member present, non-CWRU members cannot practice at CWRU gym.
